What is Telehealth?
I use Zoom, a secure and HIPAA compliant platform for us to meet virtually. Once you schedule a session I will send you the link to enter my Zoom office’.
What are the benefits of telehealth?
Convenience, No transportation time or costs, No need to take time off of work to get to my office, May eliminate child/elder/family care issues.
Is it HIPAA compliant?
Yes, I use a zoom platform that meets all HIPAA requirements to protect your confidentiality. It does not record nor does it store any information about you.
Will my insurance cover it?
You will want to check your insurance benefits to ensure coverage. You can do this by calling the number on the back of your insurance card. Most insurance plans do cover this option.
Can I do couples counseling or relationship counseling?
Yes, you will both use the same zoom id, or if your partner is not with you, they can join us on their own screen. You also have the option of meeting in different rooms, (locations) and on individual devices.
Is the session recorded?
Absolutely not! Telehealth appointments are not recorded and are strictly confidential.
How to prepare for your telehealth appointment.
Create a Confidential Space:
Things to consider
*Is the space private? Can you lock the door? If not, will others who have access to the space respect your request for privacy and not enter the room?
*Can others outside the room hear you talking? —If so, can you create white noise with a fan or other background noise? (Preferably placed outside the doorway of the room you are in.) —Consider using headphones or earbuds so that my voice is kept private and is only hearable by you.
Technical Setup:
*A laptop, large tablet, or desktop computer are ideal—preferably the biggest screen that you have available to you (that you can also have in a comfortable, confidential space)
*If you are using a tablet or phone, please prop up the device so that it is stable and that the camera is about level with your eyes.
* If you use a speaker, please do not put it on front of the device as it can cause feedback.
*Make sure you are well lit and don’t have a bright light source directly behind you.
Where You Sit
**There are 3 options 1) sit 2-3 feet away from screen (as if in a therapy office), 2) lying on a couch with the screen on the side, or 3) not looking at the screen except for the beginning and end of the session.
Clear Your Internet
*Move your computer as close as you can to your WiFi router
*After that, you’ll want to close out of any programs you don’t need which use your internet connection.
